Within the maintenance department of one of our clients, the need for more overview, clarity, and effectiveness grew. The existing structure placed high pressure on team leaders, resulted in unclear responsibilities, and involved too many handover moments between teams. The risks included delays, inefficiency, and reduced ownership.

To arrive at a sustainable solution, the issue was not only examined from an organizational perspective but, above all, investigated together with the people in practice. Through brainstorming sessions, interviews, and analyses, the opportunities and bottlenecks were clearly mapped out. Central to this were questions such as: how do we keep teams connected, how do we increase ownership, and how do we ensure people are operating at their full potential?

The research yielded four future scenarios. Each scenario offered different solutions for themes such as span of control, role clarity, collaboration, and project responsibility. Ultimately, one direction clearly emerged: a structure in which functions are grouped more logically, responsibilities are clearly assigned, and expertise is better utilized.

The result is more than just a new organizational chart. The research brought momentum, connection, and a shared vision for the future. An organization where teams collaborate better, responsibilities are clearer, and employees are given more room to take ownership, with the shared goal: a future-proof maintenance department that is ready for tomorrow.
